If you run customer chat for a small team, the shortlist usually ends with two kinds of AI chatbot. One is a global helpdesk agent like Intercom's Fin, billed per successful answer. The other is a flat-fee knowledge-base bot like UD's AI Chatbot Master, billed per month for a block of conversations. Both answer questions from your documents. Their bills behave completely differently once volume grows.
I priced both from their published pages, ran the numbers at 1,000 and 5,000 conversations a month, and listed where each one wins. One disclosure first: UD makes AI Chatbot Master, so the limitations section is hardest on UD's product.
What is the difference between Intercom Fin and AI Chatbot Master?
Intercom Fin is an AI support agent inside the Intercom helpdesk, charged US$0.99 per successful outcome on top of agent seats. AI Chatbot Master is UD's knowledge-base chatbot for websites, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, charged a flat monthly fee for up to 1,000, 10,000 or 50,000 conversations, with a six-month minimum.
Fin answers customers from your help content, can run multi-step workflows Intercom calls Procedures, and hands off to human agents in the same inbox. The company behind Intercom now calls itself Fin, and Salesforce completed its acquisition of Fin on 10 September 2026, according to a pricing guide by Gleap that cites Salesforce's press release.
AI Chatbot Master learns from files and links you upload (PDF, Word, CSV, images, MP4 and web pages, per the product page), answers in 90+ languages, and runs on your website, WhatsApp and Messenger with a real-time dashboard. It is a chatbot, not a helpdesk: there is no shared inbox or seat model.
How much do Intercom Fin and AI Chatbot Master cost?
Fin costs US$0.99 per outcome plus Intercom seats from US$29 per agent a month on annual billing. AI Chatbot Master costs $298, $498 or $988 a month for 1,000, 10,000 or 50,000 conversations, plus a one-off setup fee of $1,000 or $3,000, which is waived on the two larger plans with annual billing.
Intercom Fin: published prices (checked by Gleap on 26 September 2026)
--- Fin AI Agent: US$0.99 per outcome, charged at most once per conversation. A reopened conversation refunds the outcome.
--- What counts as an outcome: the customer confirms the issue is solved, stops asking after Fin answers, or Fin completes a Procedure, including a configured handoff. No charge if Fin cannot answer or the customer asks for a human.
--- Seats: Essential US$29, Advanced US$85, Expert US$132 per seat a month billed annually (US$39, US$99, US$139 monthly). At least one full seat is required.
--- Extras: Copilot for human agents US$29 per agent a month; WhatsApp and SMS are usage-based; a qualified sales lead counts as a US$9.99 outcome.
--- Guarantee: 90-day money-back guarantee on Fin, with spending limits and alerts.
AI Chatbot Master: published plans (checked on the live page, October 2026)
--- Starter: $298 a month, 1,000 conversations, 1,000-page knowledge base, $1,000 one-off setup, 30-day conversation logs.
--- Standard: $498 a month, 10,000 conversations, 5,000 pages, $3,000 setup waived on annual billing, 90-day logs.
--- Professional: $988 a month, 50,000 conversations, 20,000 pages, $3,000 setup waived on annual billing, 180-day logs.
--- Enterprise: custom pricing.
--- Terms: six-month minimum; a one-year subscription adds one free month and a two-year subscription adds two.
The UD page shows prices with a plain "$" sign. UD is a Hong Kong company and its other pages quote Hong Kong dollars, so this article reads them as HK$. Confirm the currency in writing when you request a quote.
What does each chatbot cost at 1,000 and 5,000 conversations a month?
At 1,000 conversations a month, with 60% counted as Fin outcomes, Fin plus one seat costs about HK$4,860 a month against AI Chatbot Master's HK$298 plus setup. At 5,000 conversations, Fin reaches about HK$23,400 a month while AI Chatbot Master Standard stays at HK$498. Fin's bill grows with success; the flat plan does not.
These examples use Gleap's assumed 60% billable-outcome rate, one Essential seat, and US$1 = HK$7.8. Your own rate could be lower or higher.
Scenario 1: 1,000 conversations a month
--- Fin: 600 outcomes x US$0.99 = US$594, plus US$29 seat = US$623, about HK$4,860 a month.
--- AI Chatbot Master Starter: HK$298 a month plus HK$1,000 setup. Over the six-month minimum, HK$2,788 in total, an average of about HK$465 a month.
Scenario 2: 5,000 conversations a month
--- Fin: 3,000 outcomes x US$0.99 = US$2,970, plus US$29 seat = US$2,999, about HK$23,400 a month.
--- AI Chatbot Master Standard: HK$498 a month on annual billing with setup waived, or HK$498 plus HK$3,000 setup on the six-month minimum.
Two caveats matter. First, neither figure includes Meta's WhatsApp charges, which apply to business replies from 1 October 2026, as explained in our WhatsApp AI cost guide. Second, even if the UD prices turned out to be in US dollars, the 5,000-conversation gap would remain large.
Where does Intercom Fin win against AI Chatbot Master?
Fin wins when the chatbot must do more than answer: running refunds or bookings through workflows, handing off to humans with full context in one inbox, working on top of Salesforce or HubSpot, or covering phone support. Its pay-per-outcome model also means you pay nothing for conversations it fails, and it offers a 90-day money-back guarantee.
--- Actions, not just answers. Fin Procedures can complete multi-step tasks. AI Chatbot Master's page describes knowledge-base answers and does not list transactional actions.
--- Human handoff in one place. Fin and your agents share the Intercom inbox, so a human picks up with the full conversation. AI Chatbot Master has no published handoff or inbox feature.
--- Low or uncertain volume. If you get 150 chats a month and Fin resolves 60%, Fin costs about US$89 plus a seat, and you can stop monthly. AI Chatbot Master still asks for six months and a setup fee.
--- Paying only for success. Failed answers and requests for a human are free on Fin. A flat plan counts every conversation, good or bad.
--- Ecosystem. Fin runs on other helpdesks (Salesforce, HubSpot, Freshdesk) and now sits under Salesforce, which matters for teams already on that stack.
What are the honest limitations of each chatbot?
AI Chatbot Master's biggest gaps are commitment and transparency: a six-month minimum, setup fees, an unstated currency, no published overage rule and no public third-party reviews. Fin's gaps are cost predictability: bills scale with success, seats are mandatory, the outcome definition can count customers who simply gave up, and packaging may change after the Salesforce deal.
AI Chatbot Master limitations
--- Commitment before proof. No free trial is listed. You commit to six months, plus HK$1,000 setup on Starter, before you see results on your own data.
--- Unclear edges. The page does not say what happens if you exceed your conversation cap, how a "conversation" is counted, or which currency applies.
--- Answers, not workflows. No published actions, CRM integrations or human-handoff inbox.
--- Short history. Conversation logs are kept 30, 90 or 180 days depending on plan, so export anything you need for training or compliance.
--- Thin proof. I found no independent reviews or published accuracy figures. Ask for a demo built on your own FAQ.
Intercom Fin limitations
--- Success gets expensive. The better Fin performs, the bigger the usage line. Model it with your own volume.
--- Outcome definition. A customer who stops replying after Fin's answer counts as an outcome, even if they left unhappy.
--- Seats on top. At least one full seat is required, and Copilot for your agents is extra.
--- Change risk. Gleap notes prices and packaging can shift after an acquisition. Gleap also sells a competing product, so verify on Intercom's pricing page before signing.
Which AI chatbot should you choose?
Choose Intercom Fin if you need a helpdesk with human agents, workflow actions or low and unpredictable volume. Choose AI Chatbot Master if you mainly answer repeat questions on WhatsApp, Messenger and your website at steady volume above about 1,000 conversations a month, and want a fixed bill. Size your real volume first.
Verdict by user type
--- Solo operator or shop with under 300 chats a month: start with Fin's monthly billing, or a low-tier pay-as-you-go tool, before any six-month contract.
--- Marketing or ops lead handling 1,000 to 10,000 FAQ-style enquiries across WhatsApp and the website: AI Chatbot Master's flat plan is likely far cheaper. Get the currency, overage rule and a demo in writing.
--- Support team of three or more agents needing handoff, refunds or CRM actions: Fin, or another helpdesk-native agent.
Before you talk to either vendor, sort your real enquiries. This prompt turns three months of chat exports into the numbers both vendors will ask for.
Try this prompt (paste with an export of recent chats or emails):
You are helping me size an AI customer chatbot. Below are my customer enquiries from the last 3 months.
1. Count total conversations per month.
2. Sort each conversation into one bucket: A = answerable from our FAQ or documents; B = needs an action (refund, booking, order change); C = needs a human judgement or complaint handling.
3. Give the share of A, B and C, with 3 example messages for each.
4. List the channels used (WhatsApp, website, Messenger, email) and the share per channel.
5. Flag the top 10 repeat questions in bucket A.
Output a short table, then one paragraph on whether a flat-fee FAQ chatbot or a per-outcome helpdesk agent fits this pattern better. If the data is too thin to decide, say so.
If bucket A dominates and volume is steady, a flat-fee bot usually wins on cost. If bucket B or C is large, you need handoff and actions, and Fin's model earns its price. Either way, ask both vendors for a test on your own documents before you sign. We understand AI. We understand you better. With UD by your side, AI doesn't feel cold.
