By the end of this page you will know what answer engine optimisation (AEO) services cost in 2026, from a one-off audit to an enterprise retainer, what a Hong Kong agency charges compared with US benchmarks, which line items inflate a quote, and where a US$0 diagnostic fits before you sign anything. Every figure is sourced and dated so your procurement team can check it.
This is a pricing page, not a pitch. It exists because most AEO vendors do not publish prices, and a VP of Marketing or Head of Digital asked to approve a HK$300,000 annual retainer deserves a baseline before the sales call.
What is AEO and why does it now have a budget line?
Answer engine optimisation (AEO) is the practice of structuring a website and its content so that AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews can read, quote and recommend it. It now has its own budget line because AI answers increasingly replace the click, and a brand absent from the answer is absent from the decision.
The commercial logic is measurable. Semrush's July 2025 study of 500-plus topics found AI search visitors convert at roughly 4.4 times the rate of traditional organic visitors, and that ChatGPT cites pages ranking at Google position 21 or lower almost 90% of the time. Ranking well on Google no longer guarantees presence in the answer.
For Hong Kong enterprises the stakes are sharpened by language: a firm needs to be quotable in English, Traditional Chinese and often Simplified Chinese, and each language is scoped and priced separately by most vendors.
How much does an AEO audit cost in 2026?
A one-off professional AEO audit costs US$250 to US$500 (about HK$1,950 to HK$3,900) for a small site and US$1,000 to US$3,000 (about HK$7,800 to HK$23,400) for an enterprise site, according to Stackmatix's March 2026 pricing research. Automated scans that check structure and AI readability are available free from several vendors.
The price gap between the two tiers comes from page count and the number of AI platforms covered, since each platform is checked separately. An enterprise audit typically covers AI crawlability (robots.txt and llms.txt rules), schema validation, content structure, entity gaps and a prioritised fix list.
Many agencies waive the audit fee when you sign a monthly retainer. Treat a "free audit" attached to a retainer as a sales document, and a standalone paid audit as a diagnostic you own.
How much do AEO agency retainers cost per month?
Published AEO retainers run US$3,000 to US$15,000 per month (about HK$23,400 to HK$117,000) for most B2B programmes, per Stackmatix and OutreachBloom's 2026 guides. WebFX's guidance places mid-market at US$5,000 to US$25,000 and enterprise programmes at US$25,000 to US$50,000-plus per month, rising further once multiple markets and languages enter scope.
Very few agencies print a number. OutreachBloom's August 2026 survey found eight that do, with entry prices from US$3,000 per month (RevenueZen, WebFX, RevvGrowth, Singularity Digital) to US$8,000 minimum (Siege Media), US$10,000 (Omniscient Digital) and US$15,000 (iPullRank). OutreachBloom's own Silver and Gold plans are US$3,400 and US$4,900.
In Hong Kong, HKINT publishes AEO services from HK$7,800 per month covering audit, content rewriting and citation tracking, with a phased hours model: roughly 20 hours for audit and reporting, 40 hours for running about 1,500 test queries, 80 to 120 hours for page rewrites, then 40 to 60 hours per month of baseline re-runs and refinement.
The reason retainers cost what they cost is labour. AEO work still requires substantial human judgement: writing content designed to be quoted, earning citations in sources AI engines trust, and maintaining community presence on platforms such as Reddit. OutreachBloom notes that any quote under US$2,000 per month either excludes citation building or fakes it.
What are the one-time setup costs behind a first quote?
Unbundled AEO setup work adds US$6,250 to US$25,000 (about HK$48,750 to HK$195,000) of one-time cost before any monthly deliverable ships, according to OutreachBloom's tally of published rates. This is why a serious first quote often looks front-loaded compared with the recurring fee.
The published one-time line items are:
--- AI crawlability setup, including robots.txt and llms.txt rules: US$500 to US$1,500
--- FAQ and schema deployment: US$500 to US$2,000 to build, then US$200 to US$500 per month to maintain
--- Topical mapping: US$1,000 to US$3,000
--- Site architecture and internal linking work: US$2,000 to US$8,000
--- Knowledge panel and entity acquisition: US$2,000 to US$10,000
--- Core Web Vitals and mobile remediation: US$1,000 to US$5,000
Recurring add-ons include Reddit and community seeding at US$500 to US$2,000 per month, backlink campaigns at US$500 to US$5,000 per month, and AI visibility monitoring software at US$20 to US$500 per month. For a comparison of the monitoring tools specifically, see AI Visibility Tools: US$29 to US$400 a Month, Compared.

What pushes an AEO quote up or down?
Four factors move an AEO quote: competition density in your category, the technical condition of your site, geographic and language scope, and how hard it is to earn citations in the publications your buyers' AI assistants trust. Stackmatix's research flags site complexity and international scope as the two largest multipliers.
For a Hong Kong enterprise the language multiplier is the one to watch. A trilingual site is, for scoping purposes, three content programmes. Ask every vendor whether the quote covers English only, and what Traditional and Simplified Chinese add.
Regulated categories such as financial services and healthcare pay more per citation, because the sources AI engines trust in those fields are harder to reach. Budget for digital PR as a core component, not an add-on, if you operate in one.
Should you buy a tool, hire in-house, or retain an agency?
Once staff hours are priced, the three paths converge: OutreachBloom's 2026 model puts DIY with an existing employee at US$3,100 to US$9,500 per month, a dedicated in-house hire at US$6,050 to US$9,900 loaded, and an agency retainer at US$3,500 to US$11,500 including internal coordination. The decision therefore turns on speed and citation reach, not headline cost.
A practical split for most mid-market firms is to handle the technical foundation and basic monitoring internally, and buy the citation building, which scales with people rather than software. A free structural scan is the cheapest way to see how much foundation work you actually have.

What are the limitations of a free AEO scan, including UD's?
A free scan, UD's AEO Auditor included, is a diagnostic and nothing more. It measures structure, schema coverage and current AI mentions, then produces a prioritised list. It does not write content, earn citations, run community engagement or track your visibility over months, which is where the retainer money above actually goes.
Be specific about the gaps.
It reflects a point in time. AI engines re-crawl structural changes in roughly two to four weeks and accumulate citation signals over one to three months. A single scan cannot show trend; monthly re-scans can, but that is a discipline you must keep.
It cannot see your competitors' spend. The scan shows whether competitors appear in AI answers, not what they are paying to get there. Benchmark against the retainer figures above, not against the scan.
UD's implementation consulting is quoted, not listed. Unlike the eight agencies that publish a rate card, UD scopes its AEO structure, SEO ranking and GEO visibility work per engagement. If a published monthly price is a hard requirement for your procurement process, the vendors named in this article that print one are the right comparison set.
A structural score is not a citation. A site can pass all 170-plus checks and still be absent from AI answers if no trusted source mentions it. Structure is necessary, not sufficient.
What is the right next step for a Hong Kong enterprise buyer?
Run a free structural scan first, collect three vendor quotes with deliverable counts attached, divide each price by its committed citations and content pieces, and set a budget floor of roughly US$2,000 (about HK$15,600) per month for any serious B2B programme. Walk away from sub-US$500 packages that promise AI citations; the labour costs more than the fee.
Then hold the vendor's number against the ranges on this page. A Hong Kong quote well above HK$7,800 per month should come with visibly more hours, more languages or more citations than HKINT's published entry tier. A quote far below it should explain what has been left out.
Plan on three to six months before citations show in tracking and six to twelve months to judge return. That timeline is the same whether you buy from a US agency, a Hong Kong agency or build in-house.
Pricing pages in this category are rare because the market is young and opaque. That opacity is expensive for buyers. We understand AI. We understand you. With UD by your side, AI never feels cold.
